Can a department sell or gift used equipment to staff members?

As a general rule, departments should avoid selling / gifting University assets to employees or their relatives. Any disposal or sale of a University asset to an employee is subject the asset disposal policy, which in this case would require approval from either a Vice-President, Assistant Vice-President, or Vice-Provost, and the University’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
